The First IFIP Academy on the State of Software Theory and Practice will take place in Porto Alegre, Brazil, hosted by the Instituto de Informática, UFRGS, University, from 18th to 22th July 2005. This event will provide students and researchers with a grounding in the core subjects of the following software topics: High-performance computing for computer scientists, Trust and Reputation in P2P, Virtual Communities, and Web Services, Database semantics, Ontologies, and their impact on the Web, Personalization and Context Exploitation in Information Mediation, Information Integration, and Multi-Stage Programming. The school is intended for graduate students and researchers or for researchers from neighboring disciplines, as well as for industrial researchers and practitioners who want to find out more about this area. The lecturers at the school are leading IFIP researchers in their own fields and their course subjects strongly reflect the research work for which they are well known.
